KHOISAN

The Khoisan series was produced in the region of Northern Cape in South Africa, where the artist carefully staged the performative images that has become customary in her photographic practice. While other series have incorporated false cultural references in order to explore an imaginary mesh of cultures, this series focuses on the traditions that are particular to the Khoisan tribe. Nevertheless, the images are as much rooted in a fashion sensibility than they are the documentary, where the subject’s clothing, props, and accessories subsume their individuality.
